Low Cost Whale Detection and Monitoring with Optics

Abstract: This small, woman-owned business leverages decades of experience in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance programs to demonstrate a lightweight, low cost, real-time multichannel, electro-optical imaging system (EOIS) that detects low-contrast targets in a variety of challenging environments ranging from highly-reflective (maritime) to visually-restricted (heavy jungle). The EOIS consists of a three-channel, multi-spectral imager, an uncooled long wave infrared camera, and a high-definition, high-powered, digital video camera. The initial application for this turreted system is the detection and tracking of submerged or difficult-to-see marine mammals. The EOIS is suitable for a variety of reconnaissance missions mounted on any aircraft, including the targeted platforms: the Navy's small, tactical, unmanned air systems. The company seeks to develop partnerships with primes and government program offices interested in transitioning this technology.
