Abstract: To dissuade hostile action against USVs and Naval or coastal assets in littoral areas with a high density of small civilian craft, unmanned boats require a highly-effective, less-than-lethal weapon system. Current light-weight laser systems have insufficient power, while sufficiently-powerful high-energy lasers are too large and complex for integration into small-boat platforms. This low-cost, high-energy fiber-laser system employs passive coherent combining to enable efficient, lighter-weight laser weapons appropriate for USVs, with laser pointing accuracy in sea states to improve operational effectiveness. Additional applications include ground and air platforms, and scalability to ship platforms. This developer and manufacturer of unmanned systems seeks transition support from Navy/DoD program offices to provide less-than-lethal laser capability to the warfighter in coastal areas, or on deployable platforms protecting large marine assets.
