A Modified GMAW System for Distortion Reduction and Travel Speed Increase through Separate Heat Input and Deposition Rate Control Keywords: Shipbuilding, distortion, affordability, manufacturing, processes, SAW, FCAW, GMAW, shipyards Abstract: This company provides innovative technologies to improve weld quality and productivity. The technology provides a simple, yet unique way to modify existing shipbuilding welding equipment to enable fast welds with less heat input. Shipyards can thus reduce post-weld distortion while still maintaining the needed productivity and welding speeds. Technology is applicable to shipbuilding welding processes including submerged arc welding (SAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and major applications including fillet welds and butt welds. The target application will be structural welding on a future surface combatant. The system is scheduled for demonstration and full range qualification tests at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding - Gulf Coast. The company seeks relationships with application contractors and defense maintenance personnel to bring this technology to the Navy market. Presentation: Tuesday, 3:05pm - 3:25pm in Conference Theater Booth: S7 |
