Abstract: This unique technology passively detects and automatically classifies marine mammal vocalizations and allows the United States Navy and other industries to fully comply with the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The technology is fully automated and does not require a sonar operator. Verification tools have been implemented to permit the sonar operator/end user to verify the auto classification if desired. The technology supports a wide variety of wideband sensors and the multi-channel capability supports localization. The system also supports the auto detection/classification of active sonars and provides improved situational awareness in complex hydro-acoustic environments. The system logs all detections and auto classifications, and provides a verifiable record for post-mission assessment. Relationships are sought with program sponsors to support spiral development and integration into fleet processors.
