Haptic Automated Communication System (HACS) Keywords: Human factors engineering, multimodal interfaces, gesture recognition, Haptic communication, robotics Abstract: This human factors engineering research and development firm designs and develops a variety of multimodal interface technologies for enhanced command/control and communication capabilities. The Haptic Automated Communication System (HACS) consists of an instrumented glove (iGlove), dead reckoning module, pattern recognition software, and avibrotactile feedback vest. HACS enables automated recognition of static and dynamic hand signals, warfighter location, orientation/activity, and weapon orientation/firing status, as well as subsequent presentation of relevant information to team members viathe haptic modality. Current efforts include enhancement of the individual components, including ruggedization and integration with current field gear and communications infrastructure. The company seeks relationships with DoD acquisition and transition customers, as well as strategic partners to transition the system and/or individual components to the military.
