Vector Sensors for Reliable Acoustic Path Applications Keywords: Vector sensor, single crystal accelerometer, reliable acoustic path, vertical line array, ASW Abstract: This seven-year old, 60-employee company develops and produces leading-edge directional acoustic receivers and arrays for Navy sonar applications. We are developing new transduction technologies to improve performance of reliable acoustic path vertical line arrays (RAP VLA), which are persistent deep water acoustic surveillance systems under development by the Navy designed to provide early detection of submerged threats. Vector sensor technology advances have led to a 30-fold reduction in volume relative to the first generation device. The form-factor reductions work toward satisfying the packaging requirements of modern day ASW delivery systems such as the C-Size sonobuoy and Mk. 46 torpedo. Prototype vector sensor tests are anticipated FY 2010. Seeking relationships with Navy ASW program managers, and expansion of existing DoD prime relationships, to commercialize this technology further.
