Tactile Situational Awareness System (TSAS) Keywords: Tactile situational awareness, brownout solution, degraded visual environment, tactors, sensory, lifesaving Abstract: This 10-year-old company has developed an urgently needed low cost solution for helicopter pilot spatial disorientation (SD) during periods of high mission tasking (landing or hovering) and degraded visual environment (DVE) flight conditions of low visibility (night, poor weather, and brown-out due to debris blow-up). TSAS (Tactile Situational Awareness System) will provide the pilot with a tactile cueing system that will indicate, in real time, a potentially dangerous flight attitude. This novel, successfully flight-tested and evaluated technology is insertion ready. TSAS technology, uses existing information from on-aircraft navigation systems and sends signals to "tactors" encircling the pilot's torso. The company seeks program funding and prime partners to transition this lifesaving technology to deployed rotorcraft or fixed wing aircraft for war fighters now.
