Clamp to Replace Click-bond Stud Quad Chart Narrative Briefing Capabilities BrochureKeywords: Insulation, attachment clamp, ballistic, acoustic, thermal, harness Abstract: This 25-year aviation equipment manufacturer produced three cost-saving deliverables for the V-22. A repositionable clamp was developed to replace bonded click-studs to secure insulating blankets and wiring to the airframe. Hundreds of click-studs are currently bonded to an airframe. They break off and each requires some two person-hours to attach. The new clamp is strong and installs in seconds. The company also delivered thermo-acoustic insulation that out-performs current quilted blankets. Lighter, stronger and impervious to chemicals and fluids, it has superior insulating properties, and passes FAA flame/smoke/toxicity requirements. Finally, the company demonstrated that lightweight ballistic protection can be incorporated into insulation. Ongoing research with the Army Research Lab is furthering this latter innovation.
