Lost hearing can reduce mission effectiveness and quality of life. Earplugs that are custom fitted to their ears can help to protect the warfighter from noise. A challenge to fielding custom earplugs is that the process for measuring ears, taking physical ear impressions, is slow, expensive and unpleasant. With over a decade of success advancing the art of hearing protection, this company has created a fast, comfortable system to measure ears using a non-invasive scanner. Significant cost savings are expected as compared to using baseline processes. By March 2012, the system will be at TRL 6.
