Downloading Linked PDF Files
On a PC: Depending on how you have your web browser
setup, you will probably be able to simply left-click on a linked document
(look for blue links that say "QUAD CHART", "BRIEFING",
and "CAPABILITIES BROCHURE") and it will download and launch
your PDF viewer. However, if you have trouble, you can also right-click
on the link and choose "Save Link As..." or a similar option
in your browser. Then just open the file you downloaded in your PDF
viewer. If needed, a link to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader is
listed above.
On a Mac: As mentioned above, your browser will probably
be setup so that you can simply click on a linked document and it will
automatically download and open in your PDF viewer. However, you can
also control-click on a link and choose "Save Link As..."
or a similar option in your browser. After the file has downloaded to
your local hard drive, you can open it using your PDF viewer. If needed,
a link to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader is listed above.
Searching
When using the search page, simply enter the
string of characters you would like to look for. The system will perform
an all-encompassing search on many fields as well as linked PDF documents
and display the results with your search term highlighted. It is recommended
that you use a substring when searching to bring up as many results
as possible. For example, instead of "submarines", use "submarine"
or even "sub" when using the default settings (see next paragraph).
By default, searches are not case-sensitive and will include results
where your search term are part of a word. However, you can select the
checkbox labeled "Case-sensitive" to make your search case-sensitive.
You can also check "Match whole word only" to force the search
to return results that include your search term as a whole word only,
as opposed to part of a word.
My Briefcase
The My Briefcase feature allows you to select a subset of technologies
that you're most interested in and share them with colleagues. When
browsing or searching the Showcase, each project will have a link entitled
"Add to My Briefcase". When you click this link, the system
will check to see if you're logged in. If you are logged in, the project
will be added to your private briefcase and you will continue to browse.
If you are not logged in, you will be taken to the login page where
you can login using a username/password combo you've already created
or you can create a new account.
To view the items in your private briefcase, simply click the briefcase
icon near the top of the screen. From there, you can browse, sort, and
remove items from your briefcase. To share the items with a colleague,
a special URL is provided near the top of the page that you can copy
and paste into an email. People who follow this link will be able to
view the contents of your briefcase but may not remove items.
